Preserving and Promoting the Marine Industry, Water Taxi and Existing Tenancies

Updated April 18, 2013
The Marine Industry is one of the largest economic generators in Fort Lauderdale and has seen its presence eroded by new development projects that demolish existing Marine uses in favor of residential projects. Understanding the importance of this industry to Fort Lauderdale’s economy and history, Marina Lofts is preserving, highlighting, and improving upon the existing maritime uses onsite.

Riverfront Marina will be preserved and improved upon by Marina Lofts. Marine enthusiasts who have enjoyed a downtown location for their boat storage for so many years will continue to experience the Riverfront Marina facility. The wet slips in front of Marina Lofts will be open to the public so that boaters can freely dock at the project and enjoy the retail, boating, and food and beverage amenities that will be provided to the boating community.

The Water Taxi headquarters will be maintained and relocated onsite. We plan to establish a new Water Taxi hub will so that the community can enjoy public transportation along the waterways. The Pirate Republic Bar, Seafood & Grill will be relocated within the project in a manner that will not interrupt its business. Its existing location will be preserved until its new location along the New River will be ready during phase 2 of development. Patrons of the Pirate Republic will not miss a single meal at the restaurant.

Wonderful. I have been looking forward to it’s new era.

Where EXACTLY will the Water Taxi boats be housed? By HQ do you mean the offices or will the boats themselves still have a home base there?

    • Asi Cymbal says:

Hi Janet, Water Taxi will have all new offices on site plus a new boat basin to house their fleet. In total, there will be dozen new slips and 500 linear feet of public dockage that will be added.
